Not too long ago, I posted about how I was loving the FlyLady Cleaning System, not much has changed, I still really love the structure that it gives me and I have been using religiously since moving. In this post, I wanted to give you a deeper look into my zone cleaning. The FlyLady system breaks down monthly tasks into simple zones, one for each week of the month. This week I want to walk you through zone two.
I have modified my zone from what the FlyLady posted to something that is a little bit more fitting for me. This week, I focus strictly on the kitchen. Freddie and I both really enjoy cooking and we both don’t really pay mind to the mess that we’re making while we do it. All of that means that our kitchen gets fairly dirty. Throw in the fact that we have white cabinets, any dirt is very visible.. And there’s nothing worse than a dirty kitchen, right? Below I have listed the tasks that I came up with to keep my kitchen clean:
- Clean cabinet fronts
- Replace sponges/wash brushes
- Run sink plugs through dishwasher
- Clean microwave
- Clean oven
- Clean dishwasher
- Sweep behind appliances
- Purge pantry items
- Organize command center
- Clean garbage disposal
- Clean toaster
- Run Utensils bucket through dishwasher
- Wash coffee maker water basin
What I love about these zone tasks is that they don’t take an incredibly long time and they’re fairly simple. These are things that need to get done on a monthly basis, but we may not always have time to do them or we may not remember to do them. What is really hard is when these tasks pile up and that’s when we get overwhelmed with how big of a mess our house has become. Thankfully, the FlyLady system really makes you sit down and think about the things that need to be done and she spaces it out so well that you don’t get overwhelmed with tasks that need to be done. Tune in next week to check out our tasks for zone three!
